While these boxes are all in original paint, I have others refinished in natural pine. For photos, please inquire. Photo #1. The surface dimensions of this box are 19.5" x 36" and the height is 20 ". It is dovetailed all round, has an interior candle compartment, a drawer and two secret compartments. Pandora may have been the original owner of this box, but if so she removed the gold, silver and precious gems from the hidden compartments before selling it.It still has a functional lock and key, where most blanket boxes have lost theirs. I added Lee Valley stays to hold the lid open while you rummage around inside. Cast iron handles added for your convenience.
Photos #2-4: A York County Blanket Box with the original faux mahogany finish preserved and waxed. Constructed from 18" pine boards with narrow dovetails. Surface dimensions are 18.5" x 36.5". Height is 17.5". Casters add 2" to the height but these could easily be removed.
Photos #5-6: Another grain-painted blanket box in simulated rosewood, this one from Goodwood, ON. Surface dimensions are 19" x 34" and the height is 16". Photo #7: A comparison of the second and third boxes. Photo #8: Another grain-painted box from which I removed a coat of ugly brown overpaint. Surface is 20" x 38" and the height 21".
